Halloween Movie Blog #21 The Child's Play Series Part 1

Ok All welcome to the next in my halloween movie editions. I know that I've done the weird and obscure but now I am going for the heavy hitters! This time we are starting with a franchise that made the scary doll franchise...Child's play. I am going to divide this into three blogs with the first three films, the next two crazy films and the new one that came out recently. They all belong grouped together for a reason.
This film is the first in the series. It follows the exploits of a killer with satanic roots who is fatally injured by the police chasing him. He manages to place his soul into the body of a Good Guy doll (the my buddy doll of the day). This doll ends up in the hands of Andy a nice young boy. Unfortunately the doll has plans for Andy which involves taking over his body and living again.
I felt it would be good to improve the reference from which Chucky sprang. This movie was by far the creepiest of the series. Throughout the film you are on the edge of your seat worried when the doll would strike really amping up the action. The biggest issue is that all the fear leaves you as soon as the darn doll speaks. I'm sorry I just can't take it seriously at this point.
Chucky is back from the dead thanks to a freak accident. This is just in time to make it for the Good Guy positive vibes campaign. Chucky is back and this time he wants to finish the job he started with Andy and take his soul. Andy is now orphaned thanks to the last film and once again finds himself in the fight of his life against the evil chucky.
This film didn't throw all the horror elements to the wind. We still have Chucky quipping but we haven't totally lost the horror element with a few jump scares. This movie still has the roots that make it a solid installment in the franchise.
In the third installment the Good Guys are back in production and the murderers soul is back and it is in yet another doll. This time Chucky is purely out for revenge and he will send our Hero through a world of pain in a fun house of horrors.
This is the last film of its kind for multiple decades. This film again has the same major issues with Chucky and his one liners making it less serious yet you do still get the horror elements and the evil fun house atmosphere has the type of fun that people could see in the saw franchise.
This trio has a very individualistic feel to it as you have the scary elements and no where near the comedy of the other films. Chucky is a cool character idea adding a little levity and a little horror making this into something quite different from most horror series.

Creep Factor - 7/10
Entertainment Value - 7/10
Scare Factor - 7/10
